Launching This Site

Hello world! Getting into a mild obsession over indie blogs a few days ago has led me to make my own. I never thought I'd spend my free time writing, even less being excited for it. But blogs like Idle Words, Sam Wilson, and especially nfraprado's blog (you might notice some design inspirations I took from this one) broke down my aversion to writing.

I used to treat any writing as a practice for academic writing: Are my sentences varied? What about my word choice? Do I sound impartial enough? But seeing myself enjoying their blogs because of the personality peaking out from their writings changed that. It showed me the joy of writing for yourself and for strangers online who are curious enough to look into a rather personal corner of your life.

So, just today, I started coding this website starting with this Youtube video. Then I moved on to this amazing webbook that almost every single indie blog (that I came across) credits as their teacher or recommends as the best place to start.

And to give you an idea on how little I knew about HTML before today; I thought that CSS was a whole other programming language that is used in tandem with HTML—like how JavaScript is with HTML. From what I understand now, it's just the name for the collection of scripts(?) that are used to customize HTML elements.

My only brush with this language is through my ongonig side project where I'm making an offline website archive of Paul Dano's high school band: Cherry Revision.

Considering that this is the first time I coded outside of school assignments, I think I did pretty well. The main pages are in place, I made a CSS style sheet, I have my first blog post, and I've whittled down the candidates for the website name to just two: Archae-hyun and Hy-until.

Archaehyun might be a little too long, but I like the clear separation of my name and the prefix. It's also easier to form a specific theme around.

Hyuntil looks (and sounds) nicer, but I can't figure out a way to distinguish my name while keeping the "until" part readable. Hy-until or Hyun-til? Maybe even Hy-un-til?

I'm very eager to choose the domain name to get my website online, if you couldn't tell.
